Whether you work from home, in an office, or somewhere where you’re running around all day, it’s a great idea to keep a handful of healthy snacks at your desk or in your bag to grab whenever you’re feeling a little peckish.
I always bring my own lunch and snacks to work because it’s less expensive and I’m more likely to make healthier choices that way (although sometimes I cave and & go downstairs to Coles w/ my work colleagues). Here are some ideas to make your desk the healthiest, most delicious place in the office:
NUTS & SEEDS
These are some of the best snacks to keep at your desk because they don’t go bad easily and they’ll keep you full between meals. Almonds, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, cashews, and pumpkin seeds are some of my favourites. Stick to unsalted varieties, although dark chocolate-covered almonds are fine in my books 😉
The types of dried fruit you can find are endless which means you’ll never get bored. Stock up on one or more packets of dried pineapple, mango, apricots, raisins, cranberries, apple, goji berries, figs, dates, berries, coconut, etc. Stick to unsulphured and no added sugar varieties.
Instead of having a candy bowl at your desk, why not have a fruit bowl? Apples, bananas, pears, avocado, cherries, and peaches are great options that don’t really need refrigerating.
I like to spread avocado on rice crackers with some lime juice and Himalayan sea salt on top. Another option is to top either with some almond butter, banana, honey, and cinnamon.
There are so many snack bars out there, but you want the kind without high fructose corn syrup. My favourites are the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Lara Bars and Dark Chocolate Cherry Kind Bars.
I loooove the KALE because its delicious and very healthy for you! You can even make your own Kale chips.
CHOCOLATE CHIPS OR DARK CHOCOLATE
We all have those days when we need a chocolatey pick-me-up, and it’s better to have some relatively healthy options at your desk rather than having to buy whatever’s at the cafe.
Not a snack per se, but I always have tea at my desk to sip throughout the day. My favourites English Breakfast, Chamomile, Peach & Peppermint.
Lemon, lime, cinnamon, honey, and chia seeds are all great for adding some variety and flavour to your snacks. If you have a fridge at work, you could also keep things like almond milk, nut butters, and coconut water in there.
